Conclusion

The ERS International Congress 2022 was unique in the focus and challenges discussed. Many research findings were presented within the scope and impact of COVID-19, demonstrating how the pandemic further complicated pre-existing challenges to pulmonary disease treatment. There continues to be a largely unmet need for rapid and early diagnosis of many pulmonary diseases. More than that, continued research for optimized treatments that offer a better patient quality of life remains a priority.

Treatment options for many pulmonary diseases remain limited. They often use corticosteroids in excess, leading to additional health issues and comorbidities due to the adverse side effects that accompany corticosteroid usage. It is crucial to continue the search for effective, long-term treatments with minimal side effects within pulmonary diseases for enhanced patient outlooks.

Maxim Kosov, MD, Ph.D., is a Senior Medical Advisor at PSI CRO AG (USA). He graduated from Pediatric Medical Academy in Saint-Petersburg, Russia, in 1993 and worked as an intensive care physician in neonatal intensive care units of several major hospitals. He completed an international fellowship in neonatology at Albany Medical College, NY, USA, in 1996. In parallel with clinical work, Maxim was an Assistant Professor of the Faculty of Anesthesiology and Intensive Care at Saint-Peterburg Pediatric Medical Academy. He joined PSI in 2004 and acted as a Medical Monitor in more than 60 clinical trials in various indications. He is the author/co-author of more than 50 publications and presents his research works at numerous international meetings and congresses, including annual European Respiratory Society (ERS) meetings in Berlin (2002), Stockholm (2002), and Drug Information Association (DIA) Congress in Hamburg (2016). Maxim is also a member of ASCO.
